A New look at Health Education!

Wellness on Demand! aims to improve the management of chronic disease within primary care practices by educating patients directly and empowering them to assist their physicians in the management of their own conditions.

Much Needed Changes

One look at the growing epidemic of serious health problems in America and abroad is enough to see we need a new way to educate the masses regarding health and disease management. Wellness on Demand! is one effort to address this crying need.

In order to have a significant social impact, Wellness on Demand! has undertaken the following tasks:

Develop a multimedia approach to the delivery of culturally sensitive health information to consumers. Intervention strategies will be used to improve the knowledge, attitude, self-care skills and healthy behaviors necessary to achieve an objective improvement in chronic disease (i.e. Diabetes, heart disease, asthma, HIV/AIDS, cancer, depression, arthritis, etc.)

Develop and implement multimedia educational workshops to various ethnic populations. Workshops will initially be provided in English, Spanish, and French.

Develop and implement multimedia interactive Health Care Education Centers located in primary care physician offices and health care institutions. An educational Internet site for viewing of consumer oriented medical presentations via cable and web cast will be developed. These education centers will be equipped with either high-speed Internet or Cable connection with access to public broadcasting stations. These Education Centers will enable participants to experience a broad range of multimedia health content specific to chronic disease. The interactive website will be programmed to deliver audio, video, text and animated content.

Identify existing linguistically appropriate education materials and develop new materials to enhance compliance with disease state management goals. Educational materials will focus on the enhancement of behavioral change strategies.

Use telemedicine interventions (telephone calls and radio programming) to provide participants with ongoing follow-up and clinical goal attainment of diabetes and CVD.

Develop and implement an evaluation and monitoring plan to obtain and organize outcome data generated during the education workshops.
